(www.rolebasedpractice.com), the healthcare consulting entity responsible for bringing a focus on role-competence and role-accountability to the forefront of healthcare administration.

Role-Based Practice Solutions (“RBPS”) works with small and large acute care hospitals, healthcare systems and academic centers to ensure role-competence and best practices in the employment of nurses. Led by renowned nurse Dr. Maria O’Rourke, RBPS works directly with companies to cultivate a highly skilled and engaged workforce. This translates into higher work quality, improved safety, operational efficiencies, patient satisfaction, and nurse satisfaction, directly improving financial performance, while reducing nurse turnover and vacancy rates.

Dr. O’Rourke leads RBPS’s experienced team. O’Rourke is a nationally recognized expert on the use of the professional role within an interdisciplinary team, with special expertise in the use of the role of the registered nurse. O’Rourke was instrumental in rewriting the California Nursing Practice Act in 1974, and published the first paper on its implementation, which served to guide the profession in the appropriate use of the professional RN. Her work and founding of RBPS has been the industry flagship for focus on the role as a key variable impacting accountability, practice and outcomes.
